I reviewed Hatchet 3 (2013)

Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third film of horror in the Hatchet Series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.

The utilization of special effects is the main strength of this movie. Hatchet 3 is a modern horror film that heavily relies on CG effects. Hatchet 3 focuses mainly on realistic makeup effects as well as sets. This results in some truly horrifying scenes.

The cast delivers a solid performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. It feels like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is somewhat funny and (click now to read article) snarky. There are also instances of humor in the movie which add humour to bloody action.

The problem is that the budget is so limited (reportedly $1 million) the majority of locations used that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from previous films in series. For example, the same boathouse was featured twice in the film. A lot of the locations seem like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. It can feel almost familiar to those who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very similar to other entries in this series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances from its actors.
